    The Geneva Center for Security, Development and the Rule of Law has provided a link to its latest publication, Handbook on Gender and Complaints Mechanism.

    Around the world, armed forces are recognizing the important contribution that women make within their ranks, and the fact that increasing the representation of female personnel is fundamental to future capability and operational effectiveness. In tackling barriers to women’s full participation in armed forces, a key priority is to prevent gender-related discrimination, harassment, bullying and abuse – to ensure that all personnel, men and women, serve in an environment that is healthy, safe and respectful, and upholds their human rights. Effective and trusted complaints mechanisms are a crucial component of such an environment.

    This handbook brings together knowledge and experience as regards prevention of misconduct, and handling and monitoring of complaints within armed forces, with particular regard to gender. It is a resource for armed forces, ministries of defence, ombuds institutions and others that manage and oversee armed forces in:

    • establishing a safe and non-discriminatory environment for men and women in the armed forces;
    • dealing with instances and complaints of gender-related discrimination, harassment, bullying and abuse in the armed forces; and
    • monitoring and overseeing the handling of instances and complaints of gender-related discrimination, harassment, bullying and abuse in the armed forces.

    Help us with a warm welcome to Myra James, the new Editor of IAWP's WomenPolice Magazine.  Replacing Simon CM Townsley won't be easy; but Simon trained Myra and she is ready to keep the magazine moving forward.  We all wish both Simon and Myra the best.

When approved by the Chair of the Membership Committee, the officer's information will be moved into a directory viewable by IAWP members.  If a member wishes to sponsor an officer, she will inform the membership chair who will take the next steps.

    The sponsorship period will be for two years with a possible extension of an additional two years.

    2015 ELECTION BALLOTS for MEMBERS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE

    The 2015 Election package was mailed via U.S. Postal Service.  As in previous elections, please read the instructions included with your election package.    There is one addition to the instructions - the label printed with the word “Ballot” was left out of the package.  Therefore, please print the word “Ballot” on a blank envelope:  Mark that envelope with ballot and place in the return envelope.

    PLEASE write USA on the envelope being returned to the Election Chair, Pat Correa.

    We just received a message from a member that her postal service wanted the country indicated on the envelope. If you will write USA, your postal service should have no issue in accepting the mailing.
